INXS’s Andrew Farriss was in Ohio, visiting his wife’s family, when he discovered the band had received its first Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination, 21 years after becoming eligible. The irony was not lost on Farriss, as INXS’s early U.S. tour in 1983 nearly ended in disaster in Ohio. Despite this, he expresses joy over the nomination and reflects on the band’s legacy and success, emphasizing gratitude over entitlement. INXS, formed as the Farriss Brothers in Sydney in 1977, has sold over 50 million records, with hits like “Need You Tonight”. The band’s achievements include induction into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame in 2001.

The passing of frontman Michael Hutchence in 1997 was a tragic moment for the band, but Farriss believes Hutchence would have appreciated the recognition from the Rock Hall. Post-Hutchence, INXS experimented with several singers and remained active with archival releases and solo projects, notably by Farriss. As the group considers future plans for anniversary celebrations in 2027, Farriss hints at a possible reunion, but remains uncertain about its form.

INXS is one of 10 first-time nominees for the Hall of Fame, alongside notable artists like Jeff Buckley, Lauryn Hill, and Shakira. Inductees will be announced in April, with ceremonies set for fall 2026.
