Ten-year-old Richard Akindeji, a Grade 5 student at Seaside Park Elementary School in Saint John, has astonishingly published his first novel, “Navigating Through Life: Frill’s Story.” Originally intended as a school project, the book blossomed into a full-fledged publication with encouragement from his mentors.

Richard’s teacher, Ellen Boyce, anticipating his literary potential, was thrilled but surprised by his early success. She recounted how Richard mentioned he was still writing in the fall and by January, he had completed his book.

The novel follows Frill Storm, a boy in Fredericton, exploring universal themes such as identity, future aspirations, and managing relationships. Frill’s journey, from aspiring engineer to choosing a career as a paramedic, reflects conversations Richard had with a friend, whom he also honored by including his name in the book.

Richard’s father and teacher are his greatest supporters, with Boyce being the first to receive a signed copy of his 38-page book. Despite his young age, Richard has ambitious plans for his future, considering careers in medicine, engineering, or firefighting, all while nurturing his enthusiasm for writing. He hinted at having four more books in progress, emphasizing his commitment to his craft.
