In his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump declared the U.S. “bigger, better, richer, and stronger,” claiming his leadership sparked remarkable economic and social progress. However, a review of his statements revealed numerous inaccuracies.

Contrary to Trump’s claim of inheriting a stagnant economy, real GDP actually grew significantly during the Biden administration. Under Trump, GDP growth has slowed, with unemployment rates rising. His assertions of reducing high prices are also misleading, as prices have generally risen, though at a slower pace.

Trump’s portrayal of halted drug price increases and U.S. having the lowest drug prices worldwide lacks evidence. His administration’s limited drug price agreements have not resulted in broad decreases.

Regarding trade, Trump’s assertion that tariffs could replace income taxes is economically implausible. Most tariffs’ costs fall on U.S. consumers, contradicting his claims of foreign countries bearing the burden.

Meanwhile, Trump’s boast of crime reduction doesn’t acknowledge the ongoing decline since Biden’s term. Similarly, his claim of tremendous religious renewal is contradicted by polling showing declining U.S. religious engagement.

Trump’s immigration assertions, such as the unfounded claim of noncitizens flooding the U.S., are unsupported by credible evidence.

Finally, Trump’s assertions about U.S. energy production overstate increases, and his claims about U.S. investments are overstated promises.
